Curated by Western Sydney artist, David Capra, Sheer Fantasy suspends time to confront the role of the fantastical and how it plays within our collective conscious. In this exhibition, the world as we know it bends and shifts, making room to indulge in our greatest fantasies.

The exhibition includes a number of newly commissioned works, where artists have contemplated private and internal landscapes that have long influenced their practice. Manifested in bold architectural additions to the gallery spaces, these backdrops provide an immersive experience of constructed escapisms that are strangely familiar; referencing movie sets of Hollywood Westerns, candy-coloured theme parks and fanciful theatrics. Nostalgic tropes surrounding the notion of make-believe are questioned, loosened and pulled apart, allowing the imagination to run free.

The opening night will feature a performance by L’Estro Armonico String Orchestra, conducted by Mr George Kowalik.

Renny Kodgers | Hello Stranger (one-on-one participatory performance 18+)

Saturday 21 April, Sunday 22 April, Saturday 2 June & Sunday 3 June | Every half hour 10.30am – 3.30pm

Hitch a ride and shoot the breeze with performance artist, Mark Shorter in his role of Renny Kodgers, the consummate American entertainer. During these free performances, participants will sit with Renny Kodgers inside the cabin of a truck installed in the galleries and be led on a conversational journey that ponders the space of “The Road”. This new work commission, Hello Stranger will feature as a part of the exhibition Sheer Fantasy – all about curiosities, spectacle, and nostalgia.

Please note that performances occur in a confined space and are expected to last 20 minutes.
