Held onsite at Campbelltown Arts Centre, Campbelltown City Council collection comprises of over 1400 artworks by significant Australian and International artists. Valued at over $7 million, the collection grows each year through acquisition, generous donations, bequests, the acquisitive Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, new commissioned works and through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program.
Since 1988, the collection has developed into a diverse array of artworks which reflect contemporary arts practices and artworks relevant to the Macarthur region.

Exploring the collection: highlights
Fibre Art Collection
The Fibre Art collection holds works by Australia’s foremost Fibre Artists. Commissioned especially for the collection these works reflect the resurgence of contemporary Fibre Art practices by leading Indigenous artists.
Key artists include Joyce Mate, Yvonne Koolmatrie, Shirley MacNamara and Lena Yarinkura
Paintings
Highlights include paintings by Emily Kame Kngwarreye, James Gleeson, Queenie McKenzie, Pat Larter, John Mawurndjul, Abdul Abdullah, Philip Wolfhagen and Kitty Kantilla
Works on Paper
The collection holds and extensive volume of works on paper including works by artists Gordon Bennett, Tracey Moffatt, Salvatore Zofrea, Savanhdary Vongpoothorn and a selection of 19thcentury hand coloured lithographs by Joesph Lycett reflecting the Macarthur region.
Wedderburn Artists
Bordering on Dharawal National Park, a short distance from Campbelltown Arts Centre, artists living in Wedderburn first emerged 1970s seizing a unique opportunity to live and work in bush studios in order to focus on arts practice. Artists continue to engage with Wedderburn, richly contributing to the artistic fabric of the Campbelltown region. The collection has an extensive collection of works by artists who have lived and or worked in this area over the past 50 years. Highlights include works Elisabeth Cummings, Roy Jackson, John Peart, Suzanne Archer, David Hawkes and David Fairbairn.
Ceramics
Included is a significant collection of ceramics works with over 100 ceramics collected over the past 30 years with key artists including Pippin Drysdale, Jenny Orchard, Marea Gazzard, Alan Peascod, Linda Draper, Mitsuo Shoji and Danie Mellor.
Sculpture and Installation
Highlights include works by Dale Harding, Justene Williams, Michel Tuffery, Tony Albert, Joan Brassil, Julie Gough, Alan and Peggy Griffith, Bronwyn Oliver, Khaled Sabsabi Raquel Ormella, Vicki West, Lola Greeno, Rosalie Gascoigne, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah and Edrick Tabuai
Time-based media
Highlights include works by artists Katthy Cavaliere, Tracey Moffatt, Joan Ross, Mike Parr, Deborah Kelly and Shaun Gladwell
Marsden Collection
In 2006 John Marsden bequeathed a collection of more than eighty works to Campbelltown City Council collection. This unique collection which largely of consists of works on paper and paintings reflects John Marsden’s strong commitment to supporting the local artists of the Macarthur region
Baycroft-Holt collection
In 2001 Dr Stephen Baycroft and Dr Don Holt generously donated an important collection of contemporary Scottish art to the collection; a highlight of this donation was a collection of works artist Ken Currie – one of Britain’s most important and internationally renowned contemporary artists
Campbelltown Arts Centre Sculpture Garden
Over the Fisher’s Ghost creek bridge, the Sculpture Garden was opened in 2001 with a permanent display of sculpture and site specific artworks by artists including Eric Aarons, Amanda Hart, Campbell Robertson – Swann, Leeanne Hunter, Lynn Gabriel, Peter Day, David Humphries and Alan Crawford. One highlight is Joan Brassil’s A Tether of Time(2000-2001) an interactive and environmentally sensitive sound sculpture. The Sculpture Garden is open 10am – 4pm daily, and invites reflection and relaxation

Where appropriate, Campbelltown Arts Centre can also accept donations to the Campbelltown City Council Collection through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program
